Crypto payments are now legal tender.
President Donald Trump signed the GENIUS Act into law on July 18, 2025, during a White House ceremony. The bill, officially named the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act, passed the House on July 17, 2025, with a bipartisan vote of 308-122 and had previously cleared the Senate on June 17, 2025, with a 68-30 vote. It establishes the first federal regulatory framework for stablecoins in the United States, setting requirements for issuance, consumer protections, and oversight.
